Plant description

The design to improve the aerobic biostabilization plant (AIA authorization released by D.R.S. 1004/2009) was born from two different needs: i) to balance the waste flows treated in the plant with those produced by the mechanical treatment plant (auth. A.I.A. D.R.S. n. 248 26/03/2009) which has a capacity of 1,000,000 tons/year and about 450,000 ton/year are allocated to aerobic biostabilization; ii) to provide a new section of the plant which will be used for the treatment of organic waste from the separated collection of MSW, in accordance with the new targets of the Regional Plan for the management of Municipal Solid Waste – May 2012 (separated collecting of 65%). The design provides the construction of:

  • a new section for the aerobic treatment of underscreened materials resulting from mechanical selection with a maximum capacity of 150,000 ton/year, equal to about 410 ton/day (stabilization in static heaps within n. 23 closed tunnels, which are subjected to forced ventilation), in order to increase the current capacity from 315,000 to 465,000 ton/year;
  • a new section for the anaerobic digestion of Organic Waste resulting from separated collection of MSW with production of compost, with a maximum capacity of 75,000 ton/year, which are about 205 ton/day (mechanical pretreatments, anaerobic digestion, within n. 13 closed tunnel, for the production of biogas which is recoverd within a 1.5 MW cogenerator, stabilization and drying of the digested sludge, within n. 13 closed tunnel subjected to forced ventilation).
